Private, anonymous, and named are three different things

A private diary is for you. New diaries start out public and anonymous, and you can mark any diary private, after which it is not listed in feeds or on your profile and other members and logged-out visitors cannot open it.

An anonymous post is public but unattributed. Readers see the writing, not the writer: there is no username, avatar or profile link on it, and it is never listed on your profile pages for anyone but you.

A named post shows your username, either from the moment you publish or later, through a scheduled reveal on a date you pick or a threshold reveal once the post reaches a number of reactions you set. Your username is a pseudonym, so it is only as anonymous as the name you chose.

Who can see a public post

Most public posts can be read by anyone, including people who are not signed in, and can appear in search results. Your public profile page lists your named activity by default, and you can switch each section of it off in Profile > Preferences > Public Profile.

Some posts are deliberately kept off the open web. Posts by members under 18, and posts that describe abuse, sexual content or self-harm, are shown only to signed-in members. Logged-out visitors and search engines never see them.

What HuniWhisp collects, and what it never shows

To sign up you give a username, an email address, a password and your age group. Signup does not ask for your real name, a phone number or access to your contacts. Contact sync exists in the mobile app but stays off unless you turn it on, and the matching data is discarded straight after use.

Your email address, display name and bio are encrypted at rest. HuniWhisp keeps internal records such as sign-in IP addresses for 180 days, for fraud prevention and ban enforcement, and never displays them on a post or profile.

What staff can see

HuniWhisp staff, meaning administrators and super-administrators, can review content across the platform for safety, moderation, legal compliance and emergency response. That includes private diaries and their entries, private groups, and direct messages. Every one of those accesses writes a tamper-evident entry to an audit log recording who opened what, when and from where.

Automated safety scans run on posts and messages. When a post or comment is reported or flagged, its text may be sent to Google AI so the moderation assistant can read it in full. Only the text goes, never your name, email or account details, never your direct messages, and the provider does not use it to train its models.

The exceptions, stated plainly

No platform can promise that nothing will ever leave it. HuniWhisp discloses account information when a valid court order or subpoena requires it, or when there is a good-faith belief that disclosure is needed to prevent imminent harm. Suspected child sexual abuse material is always reported to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children.

If a senior administrator reasonably believes you are in an immediate life-safety crisis, they can share your identity and approximate location with the trusted contact you set up or with emergency services. It requires extra authentication and is permanently logged.

One exception applies to anonymous posts. A post that belongs in Huni Amends, the space for accountability and hard topics, can be moved there by an administrator, and the move shows your username on that post. You are notified when it happens.

Keeping a diary private in practice

Mark a diary private when you create it rather than afterward. A private diary stays private: the community rule that turns a short public diary (fewer than three entries after 14 days) into regular posts never applies to a private one, or to a diary marked NSFW.

Write as though a moderator could one day read it, because one could, and leave out details that would identify other people. Choose a username you use nowhere else. To limit who can message you, turn on Private Mode in Profile > Preferences > Privacy so that only confirmed friends can start a conversation.

Deleting your writing and your account

You can delete individual posts and diaries, or your whole account from your dashboard. Account deletion starts a 30-day grace period in which you can cancel. After that, your data is purged from active systems and replaced with an anonymized placeholder.

Encrypted archives may be kept for 90 days for fraud detection and legal preservation, then permanently deleted. Media removed for breaking the rules may be kept longer as encrypted evidence, with access restricted and logged.
